Worst Places for Families

Worst Places for Living with Families

So many lists these days focus on the best places to raise a family or have children, but they so rarely discuss what the worst places for families are.  So, as you get ready to move, how do you know which cities to avoid?

All cities have good and bad points, so what works for one family might not be as great for another.  Parents often move to different cities based on different needs – employment opportunities, schools, and extracurricular activities.  You name it.

However, there are important factors to consider when moving with your family.  How polluted is the city?  Are there risks of lead poisoning?  What are the graduation rates?  Is there a high instance of teen pregnancy?  Well, here is a quick list of some of the worst places for your family based on some of these issues.

  • Chicago, Illinois – highest lead poisoning rate
  • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – highest rate of pollution
  • Florida, Georgia, Nevada, and Washington, D.C. – lowest high school graduation rates
  • Mississippi, New Mexico, Texas, and Washington, D.C. – highest rate of teen pregnancy
  • Alaska, Montana, and Washington, D.C. – highest rate of kids without any doctor
  • Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, West Virginia – highest rate of kids living in poverty

So, if you are thinking of relocating with your family – or starting a family after you move – you may want to look a little further into what issues you may want to avoid.
