When Should You Move With Kids?

For SaleIf you are a parent and thinking of making a long distance move, you’ve probably put a lot of thought into when you should actual implement the move.  Relocation is a big life decision but it gets even bigger when you have school-aged children.  So, should you let your kids finish out the school year and move over the summer or just pack it up and go right away?

No matter what you decide you should know that there will be a certain level of stress involved for the whole family; it is unavoidable.  If you wait until the end of the school year to move, you may have to double up on bills if one parent is relocating due to a job. And separation can add to the pressure of moving.  But, if you pull your child out of school mid-year, you may be stressing your kids out as well.

If you decide to move your kids over the summer, you may find that the summer activities in your new neighborhood are all filled up.  You may also find that many families are on vacation, so your kids may have little chance to make new friends.  Many relocation specialists argue that moving during the school year will automatically immerse your children in classes with other children and activities throughout the year.

There are pros and cons to both options, but it really comes down to what is best for your family and financial situation.  Remember, during any relocation, do a little research before you move into your new home.  This will help your kids find extracurricular activities and make new friends.
