What about Mount Washington, Los Angeles?

Mount WashingtonIf you are thinking about heading to Los Angeles to look for your new home then you might do well to consider Mount Washington.

Mount Washington is located in the hills in the north-east part of the city. Dating back to 1909, this is a very affordable location in a city where the cost of property and the cost of living seem to be continually on the rise. Located between the downtown area of the city and Pasadena, Mount Washington has some great views of the Los Angeles Basin, the San Gabriel Valley and even the Pacific. If you think a move to Los Angeles means that you have to say goodbye to greenery then you definitely need to consider Mount Washington and its plentiful trees and parks.

The residents of Mount Washington are very ethnically diverse. Many of the residents here are high earners and many work in the arts. In the last ten years the neighborhood has been discovered by young professionals and young families who are struggling to afford property in other parts of the city. The artistic vibe of the area has also been a big attraction for many who have made the move here.

The homes here range from Victorian-style mansions to bungalows from the 1920s to more modern properties from the 1950s and 1960s; therefore, there is something to suit everyone who wants to relocate to Los Angeles. A number of contemporary properties have also been built here; however, development is limited and there is no danger of vast residential developments appearing on every green space.

There is also plenty to see and do in this part of the city. The Southwest Museum is one of the top attractions in the area and has one of the largest collections of Native American Art. Families and other residents also take advantage of the fact that Moon Canyon Park is right on their doorstep. This covers an area of 4.5 acres and is popular with walkers and those who just want to find a quiet spot for a picnic.

Families love the Carlin G Smith Recreation Center, where there are sports facilities and plenty of things for the kids to do. Restaurants and nightclubs are almost non-existent here, as the area is predominately residential; however, Mount Washington is just a short distance from the Eagle Rock neighborhood and here you will find plenty of both.

The Mount Washington Elementary School is an award-winning establishment, which is great for families moving to the area. Students here consistently score highly on the Academic Performance Index and the school itself is in a great location, sitting on a hilltop with amazing views of the surrounding areas.

There are also some quirky features to this part of Los Angeles. Why not pay a visit to Eldred Street, in the north-east part of the neighborhood? This street has a slope with a gradient of 33% and is widely considered to be one of the steepest streets in the world.
