Titanic memorial this weekend

Titanic memorial this weekendMany families’ lives were forever changed with the sinking of the Titanic on its maiden voyage.  It has now been 100 years since the Titanic sunk.  This is why the movie Titanic is back in theaters with a 3D version, and there are many ceremonies in the US, Canada and the UK to remember those who perished and those who survived such a tragic incident.

In the UK there was a ceremony for the remembrance of those lost to the sinking of the ‘unsinkable’ ship.  At 2.20am all was quiet after hours and hours of screams, ship whistles and music ended upon the very last of the boat sinking below the sea.

Only 700 people were rescued from the boat and now there are only family members of those gone to remember what happened.  The oldest survivor is now dead, dieing around 100 years of age.

The Titanic may have been a disaster that we remember because it was considered an unsinkable ship, but there have been others in the past that have also floundered at sea.  This has not stopped many from going on the cruise ships that exist today.  In fact there are some retirees who have permanently moved to cruise ships.  They go to a different ship every few weeks to see a different part of the world, earning great discounts on rooms for their frequent travels. They will only retire to an assisted living facility once they can no longer live aboard cruise ships.
