Tips for renters who are moving on
Although tenants are now staying in properties for longer periods than ever before, the average duration of a rental is still no more than around 19 months and the fact is that there a lot of challenges, irritants and responsibilities to deal with when you change address.
The good news is that there are some helpful tips that can make the relocation experience a good deal easier; for instance, you should take into consideration the final bills that will need to be paid prior to the day of the move to make sure that neither you nor your landlord leave any loose ends that need to be tied up at a later point, thus reducing the possibility of future disputes.
Another good tip is that an inventory that has been well put together and agreed by both you and your landlord will help to make the move easier. Although an inventory is by no means a mandatory requirement, it is still a good idea to establish whether one is provided before you sign on the dotted line for a new rental property.
You need to inform your friends, employer and your bank of your impending change of address in order to avoid falling off Christmas card lists or missing out on important mail. It is also a good idea to leave a forwarding address and phone number with your landlord in case anything urgent should arrive at your old home.
