Tips for Packing Glassware

Packing glassware If you are moving home, one thing you need to pay special attention to is your packing. You may have decided to let your professional moving company handle this for you; however, if you have the time, you may have decided that it is worth doing this task yourself, in which case you need to be aware that delicate items such as glassware require special attention.

The first thing to do is to make sure that your box is strong and could withstand a knock or two, just to be on the safe side. At the bottom of the box, create a layer of scrunched-up tissue paper to act as a cushion for the items you are putting in, then put some paper over this layer to act as a shelf.

Heavier glass items that are a little more robust can be placed at the bottom of the box, which could include vases or tumblers. These items should be individually wrapped with paper and should be packed together until there is no more room and you need to create a new layer. The items can touch but should not be packed too tightly against each other. Plug any gaps with more scrunched-up tissue paper.

Before piling more items on top, you should create a new layer of scrunched up tissue paper to provide more cushioning. Once this has been done you should not be able to see or feel the items that you have already packed. Your moving company will also recommend that you do not pack the box too high with glassware, as you need to place a cushioning layer on top before you seal the box.
