Taking the Stress Out of Moving

Take the stress out of your move with our helpful guideIf you have ever moved, you know one of the hardest things to do is keep track of everything that is going on around you.  It is easy to forget the simplest things, which are usually the most obvious.  A great way to take the stress out of relocation is to make a moving checklist.

When relocating, it is a good idea to look at it as you would a large project – and then to break that project down into manageable sections.  Let’s put it this way: packing up all of your stuff a couple of days before the movers arrive just won’t do.  Planning ahead is a critical aspect of removing the stress from relocation.

Another thing that your checklist should include is making arrangements for picking up important documents.  This could apply to schools, doctor’s offices, and so forth.  You can typically have them forwarded to your new address or pick them up in person.  As you prepare for this, it is also a good time to file a change of address form with the USPS.

Part of your moving checklist should also include getting packing materials and packing up your house.  You may want to roughly estimate how much you’ll need in the way of packing supplies and order them.  Start by packing up things you hardly ever use and make your way through the house.

Another thing that many people forget when moving is to set up their new utilities as well as disconnecting their current accounts.  Once you know your moving dates, go ahead and set it up.  It is never too early, but it can definitely get too late!
