Sun offices to relocate to Vanir Tower

Vanir Tower relocation for The SunThe Sun is moving back to downtown San Bernardino next month.  Journalists will be working on the first floor of Vanir Tower, which is situated next to City Hall on D Street, according to the publisher and president of the Los Angeles News Group, Jack Klunder.  The group is in charge of running The Sun and eight other newspapers in Southern California, including Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

“With City Hall, the county office buildings and other things centered there, it’ll make it easier not only for the newsroom to cover everything but also for the community to reach us,” Klunder announced three days ago on Tuesday, the same day on which an agreement for the office was signed by officials.  “I think it’s important for us to be seen downtown with all the things going on with local government.”

The building is set to include a community area, which is being designed with the intention of encouraging interaction.  The move comes just two months after The Sun, Redlands Daily Facts and Daily Bulletin ceased printing at The Sun’s location close to University Parkway and Hallmark Parkway in north San Bernardino and its relocation of printing duties to the print facility at the Orange County Register.

Klunder notes that when the company examined what it could do with its properties in the city’s north end, they realized it was not an efficient use of space and they could move back downtown if they outsourced printing.
