Square signs new San Francisco office lease
Square has announced plans for a brand new office in the city of San Francisco. The mobile payments firm, which is currently situated in downtown San Francisco’s Chronicle Building, will be making a move just a short distance away to a site in Central Market at 1455 Market Street. The current plan is for relocation to the new building to take place in the middle of next year.
Over the course of the last 12 months, Square has expanded from around 150 employees to over 400, the company says, revealing that it has plans to have almost 1,000 employees by the close of this year. “We’re grateful for San Francisco’s commitment to technology, and we’re thrilled the city will remain our home,” says the co-founder and chief executive officer of Square, Jack Dorsey. “Square businesses have already facilitated more than $300 million in commerce in San Francisco, and there’s so much more we can do to make a difference in the city and around the world.”
There are not yet many details regarding the layout of the new office but, given Dorsey and Square’s focus on design, how the new office turns out will be of great interest to many, with a press release already stating that there are plans to break ground with an open, collaborative space, chef’s kitchen, roof deck, and a number of other amenities for employees. Square also has a number of offices in Atlanta and New York.
