Planet Aid moves offices

Planet Aid moves officesThe nonprofit clothing donor Planet Aid, which is based in Holliston, is to relocate its offices. Planet Aid will be making a move from its current location within the next few months to a new office in Sumner Street in Milford.

Planet Aid is a nonprofit organization that collects over 100 million pounds of clothing per annum from the yellow boxes that are located in communities all across the United States, according to the regional manager of Planet Aid Northeast, Wayne Michaud. The clothes are then sold to places in need around the world, with the profits used to fund a number of different global programs including providing teacher training, operating farm programs, and helping to fight AIDS.

Planet Aid originated in 1996 in Lawrence before relocation to its current location at 1 Cross Street in Holliston a year later. The company has continued to grow over the years and now has over a dozen regional offices all over the country. Michaud says that 47 Sumner Street offers a new 135,000 square foot facility that is over three times bigger than the facility in Holliston and will be able to better accommodate the needs of the organization.

Michaud claims that the organization remaining in the area was nonetheless very important. “One of the selling points for us was staying in the community,” Michaud acknowledges. “We’ve always supported the community. It’s important to us.” Planet Aid has given supplies and food to local homeless shelters and pantries over the years.
