Packing Your Electronics

Electronics Product PackingRelocation can be tough.  You either have to figure out how to pack all of your prized possessions or allow movers do it for you.  If you are a stickler for doing things yourself or looking to save some cash, you need to know how to pack properly.  This is especially true for your electronics.  Here are some things to remember when you pack up your electronics for your move. You’ll want to take plenty of pictures before you move, so keep your digital camera handy.  Wondering why you’ll need to photograph everything?  For one, pictures can help you prove what you had if you use a moving company. Secondly, pictures can help you set up the electronics a lot easier when you get to your new home.  Everyone knows that it takes a lot longer to plug the chords back in than it did to unplug them.

  1. If you still have the original packaging that your DVD player, television, and other electronics came in, by all means use it.  If you threw them out long ago, don’t worry, we’ve got more tips for moving your electronics safely.
  2. For fragile electronics, you may want to use double boxing techniques.  Basically, put your electronic in one box, then pack that box in another.  In the first box be sure to use plenty of packing peanuts to protect your device.  Make sure you get the anti-static kind; Most moving companies sell these.
  3. Wrap all cords and cables carefully and with cable organizers.  Don’t just throw unwrapped cords into boxes.  This can tangle the cords and damage the electronics.
  4. Use cord labels.  This will help you easily identify which cords go with which devices later on when you are unpacking in your new home.
