New Year’s Day

New Year's EveNew Year’s Day takes place on the 1st of January every year.  The fun and festivities begin on New Year’s Eve, when we say goodbye to the old year and welcome in the new.  New Year’s Day is often viewed as an opportunity for people to drink and be merry; many people use it as an excuse to eat and be merry instead!

Drinking tends to be less of a part of the New Year’s celebrations than was once the case not so long ago, in large part because of tough drink driving restrictions.  On the other hand, New Year’s Day is a time to kick back, relax and enjoy the beginning of a new and promising year, a chance for a brand new start.

It is a good idea to celebrate New Year’s as much as you can – after all, it comes but once a year! Many people in the United States see the ball being dropped in Time Square in New York as the real start of the New Year in this nation, with the ball first having been dropped more than a century ago back in 1908.

Are you going to make a New Year’s Resolution for 2014? If so, you will be joining millions of other people.  If you make a resolution, only to fail to live up to it, you will still be joining millions of other people – the fact is, such resolutions are easy to make but a lot more difficult to stick to!
