Neighborhoods in Wilkes-Barre, PA

Wilkes-Barre, PAMoving to Wilkes-Barre is much easier to plan if you know a little about the various neighborhoods there. This is a city that dates back more than 200 years and there are plenty of different neighborhoods for you to consider. Recently the city has undergone something of a regeneration and people considering relocating to Pennsylvania should definitely consider Wilkes-Barre, not least because of the reasonable property prices.

The neighborhood of Bear Creek Village/Laurel Run is one of the more expensive neighborhoods in the city; however, when compared to larger cities, property is very reasonably priced. It is also a good option for those who want to rent instead of buy. Bear Creek Village/Lauren Run is quite a rural area and could be ideal for families who want somewhere a little quieter or want to make the most of their outdoor space.

Most of the property here is medium-sized family homes and while most people have chosen to buy a home, there are also a number of rentals; however, it is not the neighborhood for you if you want a historic property. Most of the properties only date back to around 1970; however, there are a few older properties but you will have to hunt for them.

Alternatively you could consider Boulevard Manor/Fox Hill for your relocation to Wilkes-Barre.  Prices to buy in this area are slightly cheaper than in Bear Creek Village, although you may find that rental costs are a little higher. This is a very suburban area and there is a good mix of property types, from studios to single-family homes. The mix between owners and renters is about even, and again there are not many older properties in the area. The number of vacant properties in this neighborhood is much lower than in some other areas; therefore, demand is high.

You might also want to consider the region of Miners Mills. With prices lower again, both for purchase and for rental, this neighborhood could be ideal for those on a budget. Miners Mills is a suburb of the city and most of the properties here are owner-occupied. This is a neighborhood for those who want a slightly older property, with most dating back to before 1939. There are not a lot of vacant properties here and there is a high demand; therefore, you will need to start looking as soon as possible. With a range of small family homes and townhouses to choose from, this neighborhood is ideal for families and couples.

A number of people have been moving to Wilkes-Barre in search of work, and thanks to the regeneration schemes in the city there have been more opportunities lately.

There are many more neighborhoods to consider for your move to Wilkes-Barre than have been mentioned here, so why not look into places such as Kirby Park, East End and Central City while you are looking for that perfect new home for you and your family?
