Kahlo exhibition planned for New York in 2015

Kahlo art exhibitVisitors to and residents of New York will be able to see a recreation of Frida Kahlo’s studio and garden in the city next year.

The exhibition, which will be created at the New York Botanical Garden, will be the first time that the artist has been given a solo exhibition in the city for quarter of a century. The exhibition will be named Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life and will include original paintings.

Kahlo was known for her use of bright colors in her work and her self-portraits. The Botanical Garden has previously held a similar exhibition of Monet’s home and work. The exhibition will run from May 16th 2015 until November next year and will recreate the courtyard and family home of the artist, including native plants from Mexico. Kahlo lived in her blue house in Coyoacan, close to Mexico City, for her whole life.

Plants featured heavily in Kahlo’s work during her later years as her health declined and she had to spend more time at home. The aim of the exhibition is to allow people to celebrate Mexican culture and to appreciate the work of this artist. Kahlo’s work is much sought after by the world’s top museums and art galleries.

Tickets will be required to access the exhibition and these are expected to be in high demand; therefore, if you want to go along, take a look at the New York Botanical Garden website and sign up for ticket alerts to be sure of your place.
