International Peace Day (UN)
International Peace Day was created more than 30 years ago, back in 1981, by a vote taken by the United Nations General Assembly. The intent of the day, as is suggested by its name, is to encourage the promotion and establishment of peace all over the world. There can be no denying that the notion of world peace is one that is very worthy and valuable. One might even think that it should be an easy task to accomplish world peace, given that nobody genuinely wants unrest or to go to war. The fact is, however, that as unfortunate as it seems, the ability to achieve total world peace continues to remain out of reach.
Of course, this does not mean that achieving world peace is actually genuinely impossible, or is a goal that we should not be doing everything in our power to try to make happen. It is fair to say, in fact, that the world in general has already made great, if as yet incomplete, strides in this direction. The world is already a lot more peaceful than it was yesterday, or last year, or last century.
International Peace Day offers people the chance to be involved in practical acts of peace to spread the message about world peace.
