How to Have a Successful Office Move
A commercial move can be even more stressful and complicated than a residential move. Why is this? When moving an office you are basically closing down the location of a business and relocating it to another. The timing and scheduling has to be perfect otherwise the company may run the risk of losing money during the move.
First of all, when it’s time to pack everything up and move the office, you don’t want to wait too long. Planning is essential. As long as you have a good head start, you can ensure a safe and successful office move – whether the relocation is local or long distance. Depending on the nature of your business, you may have to prepare for special security precautions for your move as well.
About two months prior to your move, create a moving team comprised of staff from each department of your business. Leading up to the business relocation, hold meetings to divide the moving staff into teams that will handle certain tasks. Plan a robust strategy, discuss the inventory, and plan for plenty of back up. Also, get your moving company involved as soon as you can. Discuss what your needs are so that the movers can make the relocation as seamless as possible.
As the move gets closer, do what you can to minimize the work to be done. The fewer things you have to move, the easier it will be. Purge the office of old, unnecessary documents – but be sure to shred them if they contain sensitive information. Get rid of any broken office equipment. Don’t move things you won’t need at the new office.
