Got Recruiter’s Remorse?

Hire the right person for the job and avoid recruiter's remorseAs an employee recruiter you know how difficult it can be to fill certain job openings, especially when so many potential candidates look so good on paper.  During this economy, you probably have hundreds of resumes moving across your desk.  Hiring new talent is not only time-consuming and stressful but also quite complicated.  Choosing the wrong person can move the company into quite a bind.

You’ve got to remember that even though someone looks like a perfect fit on paper, they could end up being lazy, irresponsible, incompetent, or any combination of negative traits you can imagine.  When it is up to you to choose a new hire, recruiter’s remorse definitely moves into the picture when you pick the wrong person.  So, how do you avoid it?

Avoiding recruiter’s remorse when hiring is based on prevention.  Follow a consistent procedure when hiring and never offer a relocation package until you are completely sure the person is a good fit.  Also, try not to get caught up in time constraints – even if you feel pressure to fill the opening.  If you do this, you are very likely to end up with an employee that doesn’t fit the bill.

Many employers have found that they can also avoid recruiter’s remorse by automating the hiring process a bit.  Of course you can’t get a machine to do your interviews, but you could move your human resources department into a database that allows you to quickly screen certain job candidates.  Recruitment optimization is the key to finding the right employees and move away from recruiter’s remorse.
