Dark Shadows reborn

Dark Shadows rebornDark Shadows has appeared on the TV screen twice.  The first time was in the late 60s, with Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins.  The next time it hit the airwaves was in the early 90s, with Michael T Weiss from the Pretender as one of the cast members.  The original show lasted from 1966 until 1971, but the second version did not make it past the first season.

Now the series is being reborn in the form of a movie starring Johnny Depp, with Tim Burton directing.  There is every reason to believe that the movie will depart from the original series and the remake, given the duo behind the movie.  Any time that Burton and Depp team up, it is something to behold. It does not mean the original storyline will be retained. An example is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where the two versions are definitely very different.

Depp stated that he used to run home from school to watch Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins, and that Frid was an inspiration for him to take up the role.  Frid provided elegance to the role that will be forever remembered.  Anyone who was old enough to see the original or the remake is sure to be excited over the movie, which is scheduled to hit the theaters in May.  It has quite a cast, with cameos from some of the original cast and Michelle Pfeiffer is also as a part of the show. The last role for Pfeiffer was in New Year’s Eve.
