Jerry Smith
After graduating High School in Arkansas, Jerry studied at Arkansas A&M college, then moved to California where he attended Fullerton College as an engineering major and worked for Hughes Aircraft Company in Fullerton, Ca.
When the aerospace industry experienced massive layoffs in 1970, Jerry went to work for the Bekins company in Orange County, where he entered the Bekins training program. He worked his way up from a helper to packer, driver, driver-trainer in the Bekins Training Program, warehouse foreman, supervisor, operations manager, sales manager and for many years now has been in residential sales.
Jerry has lived in Yorba Linda, Ca. since 1972. His interests away from the job are outdoor sports. He loves camping, fishing, golf and baseball. Besides playing baseball and softball, Jerry has coached girl’s softball and boy’s baseball as well as men’s softball in Orange County.
In the late 1980’s, Jerry became a partner in a large Pizza Restaurant in Yorba Linda. Among his partners in this business were the high-school principle, the Mayor of Yorba Linda at the time, and several local realtors.
“Partner’s Pizza” became the place for the high school teams, little league and soccer teams to go “after the game”.
These relationships, besides becoming friendships, are also still very helpful in Jerry’s role as a salesperson for Bekins.
Jerry has two daughters, Kristen and Tara. Kristen works for the Brea School District and Tara is a teacher in the Placentia School District, beginning her 14th year at Brookhaven Elementary School.
Jerry’s partner in life is Linda, who has also been in Yorba Linda for 39years. Jerry and Linda have been together for 15 years. Linda recently retired after working as a
Department Manager for Mervyn’s Department Store in Fullerton. Linda has three children of her own. Kyle is a doctor at St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton, Ca. Her daughter, Kristen works as an administrator for a national healthcare company, and her daughter, Kari is also an elementary school teacher in Murrieta, Ca.
Jerry hopes to work a few more years for Bekins and then retire and spend more time with the family.
